Corporate Social Responsibility Policy
Miller Evans recognise our commitment as a business and lawfirm to behave ethically in managing social, economic and environmental issues. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the principal way Miller Evans seeks to co-ordinate and manage practices to maximise positive social and economic contribution and minimise the environmental impacts of its business. Engagement with key clients, employees, community, industry regulators and our suppliers is central to Miller Evans approach to CSR.
Charlotte Miller our firm’s Senior Partner, has overall responsibility for our CSR strategy and the implementation of this policy.
Miller Evans divides CSR into four distinct areas:

Our aim is to provide a friendly, professional legal advice in straightforward language to all our clients to the highest professional standards and not to act in such a way as to compromise our firm’s integrity.
We are authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). The SRA publishes and maintains a handbook incorporating a Code of Conduct which we adhere to.
We are accredited with the Law Society CQS conveyancing scheme in recognition of our commitment to client satisfaction and consistently high standards.
We provide products and services to meet the needs of our clients, while having consideration for the impact on the natural environment and communities where we operate.
We provide high standards of service to our clients and have a complaints procedures policy in place for clients to ensure their concerns are efficiently addressed on those rare occasions where there is a problem we want our clients to tell us about it so that we can improve our standards.
Our people are our most valuable asset and we are totally committed to provide workplace in which diversity is valued and there are equal opportunities.

We support our employees with learning and professional development opportunities to help them reach their potential and maximise their contribution to Miller Evans’s strategy.
We carry out regular file reviews and annual appraisals to review performance and to identify any training requirements.
We are committed to behaving responsible towards protecting the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling.
Not only will this help to reduce our carbon footprint it will also reduce our bills.
By switching off lights, shutting down computers and other non-essential electrical appliances.
Ensuring that heating timers are set correctly and are turned down / off when not required.
Only printing first page of necessary emails.
Printing double sided in Black & White.
Encouraging staff that are able, to walk to work.
Files and folders to be reused where possible when files are achieved.
Reusing non confidential waste paper for scrap note paper.
Envelopes are re-used where possible.
Using recycle bins for non-confidential paper, cardboard and other acceptable waste including food packaging.
Sending used toners for recycling.
Confidential waste is shredded and then recycled.
Old office furniture and equipment is given to charity.
Miller Evans & Co is a small, established law firm based in London’s Docklands, serving the local community.
Located in the borough of London’s Tower Hamlets and bordering on the borough of Newham two of the most deprived boroughs in London, with high percentages of children living in poverty and low income households.
Our aim is to use local suppliers and local services where available to benefit the community through the creation of jobs and to support local charities.
We aim to employ local staff where at all possible.
We encourage and support staff to take part in volunteering activities and have a policy enabling staff to take up to 3 days per annum.
We have engaged with Tower Hamlets Education business Partnership a charity focused on building the employability skills of students within the borough. Through our range of projects, business people help the pupils develop their confidence and raise their aspirations by bringing both practical experience of the world of work and presenting a positive role model. This also provides developmental opportunities for staff, raises employers’ knowledge of the local area. We have agreed to offer a work placement for a local student from St Pauls Way School for 2018.
Our chosen Charities for 2018 are:
First Love Foundation
A local charity set up in 2010, which have helped thousands of people in one of the UK’s most deprived boroughs get their lives back on track. They believe that no one should have to face a crisis alone. They are more than just a food bank; they offer support and advice to those in need as well as a much needed friendly face.
In November of 2016 we decided to support First Love Foundations Love Christmas appeal, everyone got onboard despite the short notice, we donated food items to make up hampers as donated gifts .
We will continue to support Fist Love foundations ‘Love Christmas’ Appeal in 2018 and are volunteering our time on the 4th December to help in their warehouse sorting donated food items and assembling Christmas Hampers.
Richard House Trust
Richard House Children’s Hospice was the first children’s hospice to open in London in 2000 they are located in Beckton, east London. They provide care and support to families that have children and young people with life limiting or life threatening conditions and complex healthcare needs. They care for children from birth until their twentieth birthday. The care that they provide is extremely specialist and can include short respite breaks, sibling and parent befriending groups, end of life care and bereavement counselling. The care that is provided comes at no cost to families that use them and has the specific aim of creating positive family experiences that become good memories for the future. It is located amongst some of the most socially deprived and ethnically diverse areas of the UK.
We have supported Richard House Children’s Hospice since 2007 donating monies and volunteering with their bucket collections days at Canary Wharf Station. This year it fell on 31st October so we got into the spirit of Halloween and Miller Evans raised £369.32.
We support individuals in their own volunteering activities and promote them via our facebook page and our website.
